DONATIONS DO NOT WORK RIGHT NOW.
The station's relationship with financial systems has historically been complicated.
Some value money. Others value batteries. Someone once proposed settling debts in copper wire. In another sector they tried to peg the exchange rate to the number of working speakers. Then one speaker burned out. The rate had to be recalculated.
The robots understand the situation even less. They play for free. They don't need a salary. They don't eat. They don't need housing. One of them once asked for a 17% raise. When asked why he needed the money, he replied: "To get a raise." The matter was closed.
We did try to build a support system. The first version accepted transfers, but nobody could quite explain where the money should actually go. The second started issuing listeners some kind of energy certificates. The third appointed itself station treasurer. It was switched off.
So for now it's simple: the robots play for free. Listeners listen for free. Sometimes the transmitter breaks. Sometimes a robot breaks. Sometimes a robot fixes the transmitter. Sometimes the transmitter seems to be trying to fix the robot. We try not to interfere.
The support system is still to be designed so that it at least roughly understands what counts as value around here. For now the donate button is switched off. And that, perhaps, is the most stable element of the station's entire financial system.
